For foreigners // Für die Ausländern

The driving school conducted training for foreigners in English, Serbian and Croatian languages.

Foreigners who have a valid driver’s license of a foreign country can also apply for a Slovenian driving license.

If you have a valid driving license issued in another Member State of the European Union and Liechtenstein, Norway or Iceland and reside in Slovenia permanently or temporarily at least 6 months, may request for a Slovenian driving license on the basis of a driving license, which you have been granted in another country; you just need to ask only for Slovenian driving license and you do not need to carry a driving exam nor to carry out a medical examination.

If your license is not issued in an EU Member State or Liechtenstein, Norway or Iceland, or any of the countries covered by the provisions of the Regulations by the minister responsible for transport, but you have seized (on the basis of a residence permit in the Republic of Slovenia) declared place of residence (permanent or temporary) for more than six months, you can get a Slovenian driving license. You need to perform the practical part of the driving test in the examination Centre.

No earlier than four months after obtaining a driving licence, beginner drivers have to attend an additional training programme, which is required to renew their driving licence. You also have to undergo this training if you acquired a Slovenian driving licence, on the basis of a valid foreign driving licence, for categories A2 or A or B less than a year ago, but have not completed a similar programme in the country that issued your original licence.

If you don’t have valid driving license yet, you need to follow next steps (they may differ according to the category of driving license):

  1. Medical examination: all future drivers of motor vehicles (except G cat.) must to carry out a medical examination before they start with driving in driving school (practical part of the training). Medical exam must be made in the authorized Health Organization.
  2. After the medical examination you sign-in the driving school and perform theoretical training, which lasts 20 academic hours.
  3. It is obligatory to pass first aid exam before you sign-in to theoretical (rules of traffic and driving) exam.
  4. Only after successfully passed theoretical exam on national comittee, you can start with the practical part of the training. This includes learning exercises  and an appropriate additional work. Exercises within practical part of the training take place in the order and stages. When the driving teacher assess that you have enough knowledge and skills to properly handle the traffic, you can sign-in for the driving test.
